New Native Initiative Announces Investor Education Seminars

Laguna, NM – Native Community Finance (NCF), a Native community development financial institution serving tribal communities statewide, announced today that it is launching the New Mexico Native Financial Security Initiative, an investor education training series and outreach campaign. Throughout 2013, NCF will partner with the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing, Securities Division, and Seven Sisters Community Development Group, LLC to implement the initiative, which was funded by a grant from the Investor Protection Trust.

“Our goal is to educate Native consumers about how to protect and grow their money,” said Marvin Ginn, Executive Director of Native Community Finance. “So often, when our people get their hands on large sums of money, it slips right through their fingers. Our target audience will be Native Americans living in New Mexico who have experienced any type of windfall through legal settlements, per capita payments, or successful business endeavors. We will also welcome any tribal citizen who wants to learn the basics of investing.”

The first two one-day seminars will be held on:

· Thursday, June 6 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Mescalero Apache Community Center in Mescalero, NM, and

· Saturday, June 8 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM.

The seminars are free and will include lunch. To register or to learn more about future training opportunities and other outreach resources, please contact Native Community Finance at (505) 552-7050or visit www.nativecommunityfinance.org.
