Leslie Elgood – Supporter and more!
She doesn’t quite remember when she first began giving to Prosperity Works, but Leslie Elgood remembers being one of the millions of kids who Trick or Treated for Unicef in the 50’s. On Halloween, she and her sister would collect pennies for Unicef instead of candy. She appreciates her mother’s wisdom about giving: “Since we earned a living from the people in the community, it was incumbent upon us to give back in some way to that community.” Leslie added, “I think we should all figure out a way to do this.”
Today she cites Prosperity Works’ long-term vision, leadership, and our proven results, as factors in her decision to make PW the beneficiary of her quarterly giving . She believes that our Individual Development Accounts (IDA’s) which target low-to-middle-income communities that are often left out of the economic mainstream are important to stabilize families and build the community. She believes that providing financial capability classes – as well as $4 for every $1 saved – is an effective incentive for individuals and families who might not otherwise save.
Ms. Elgood has been generously donating to PW since 2012, both personally, and through her business (Senior Relocation Services of NM). In addition to investments in specific projects, she recently became one of our Sustaining Donors, meaning she gives quarterly or monthly.
Leslie started Senior Relocation Services because she wanted to help ease lifestyle transitions for older adults, and lessen the stress of moving or downsizing a home. She knows from moving her own aging parents how unsettling and overwhelming changes can be. “Our services are helpful to clients who are moving or downsizing a home they have lived in for decades and to their family members who often live out of state and can’t be as present to assist,” Leslie said.
They have a great team who work with respect, care, and efficiency, who enjoy helping clients and love the gratification of seeing it all come together on moving day. As trained senior downsizing and relocation specialists, and members of the National Association of Senior Move Management (NASMM), they are not only bound by a standard of ethics, safety, and integrity, but also have the skills and knowledge to help seniors and their families successfully navigate any home-related transition.
In looking at the future for Prosperity Works, she recalls that, “I remember hearing the CEO (Ona Porter) say many times: ‘Income gets you by. Assets get you ahead.’ It is such a valid philosophy, and Prosperity Works continues to create opportunities that help families set personal, social, and financial goals, and then connects them to the tools that help them succeed.”
Thank you, Leslie, for your continued support!
