After 30 Years, Couple Earns College Degrees

Karen and Clifford Lucero graduated high school more than 30 years ago.

Clifford is a recovered drug addict.  Working with the CNM Center for Working Families, he completed his Associates Degree at an Albuquerque community college.  He is now enrolled at the University of New Mexico, working towards his Bachelor’s Degree.  Clifford plans to earn a graduate degree in family studies or social work, and to work helping others struggling to overcome addiction.

“The IDA [savings] relieved the financial stresses every college student faces. I was able to put total focus on my education.”

His wife, Karen, is working towards her degree in Studio Arts at the University.

“I’m really motivated and I think a lot of that motivation was directly [from] the IDA.”

Location: Albuquerque, NM

How Prosperity Works Made a Difference:  We worked directly with CNM to integrate financial literacy and IDAs in the Working Families Program that helped Karen and Clifford earn their degrees.
